The first (of many) dam repair jobs

Well, it probably goes without saying, owning a pond with a dam likely have pretty continual repairs and maintenance. Mine did, right off the bat. The dam had a gentle slop downwards until it met the waterline at the far north end of the pond. Vehicles coming across has just made the mud hole longer and deeper, so I hired a dozer guy to come and fix it. He dug out a small portion in the middle, and laid in a 14 inch tin horn pipe to give immediate relief to the water level (he later told me, for a brief moment he thought he was going to lose my pond after he broke the dam open. ha!)

After a day of water draining, he then dug out the north end at the crossing, and laid in an 18 inch tin horn, and filled it all in. He then plowed up and moved a lot of dirt from the south bank of the pond, and leveled the dam at the north end, so that it would cover the pipe properly. Finally, he brought in a dump truck and tipped a load of DOT rock to top the newly repair dam off.
